Enjoy Treats on the Train
Port Moody British Columbia - The Port Moody Station Museum will host its annual holiday tea on the train from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. on
Sunday, 18 Dec 2011.
Residents are invited to enjoy hot drinks and cookies aboard the museum's 1921 rail car, the Venosta. Restored in 1987 with assistance from the West Coast
Railway Association, the Venosta features two sleeping compartments, and a ladies' powder room with accessories from the 1920s.
"The holiday tea has been a seasonal tradition at the museum for many years. It is a great opportunity for generations of family members to get together
without the hubbub of holiday shopping," says museum manager Jim Millar.
"There's something nostalgic about sipping tea aboard a once proud Canadian Pacific boarding car."
In addition to sweet treats, visitors will be able to enjoy the holiday atmosphere with classic '40s Christmas music and decorations.
While at the museum, visitors can view the new feature exhibit, "Negotiating Spaces: Visual Recollections of Train Travel in Canada".
Created by artist Lindsey Bond, "Negotiating Spaces" is composed of photography, video, audio, and text. The pieces were created on a two-month-long
rail journey across Canada and illustrate the people and places Bond saw along the way.
The cost of the holiday tea is $5 per person and includes admission to the museum.
Reservations are not required.
All proceeds will go to support the Port Moody Heritage Society, which owns and operates the Port Moody Station Museum, located at 2734 Murray Street.
