Pedestrian Bridge Rebuild May Take Until 2013
Peterborough Ontario - It's too early to say when the pedestrian bridge along the rail line across Little Lake will re-open, but City
planner Brian Buchardt is optimistic a rebuild is possible.
Right now, the City is finishing up the bidding process to select a company to see if rebuilding the trail portion of the bridge is possible and if so, the
company will do a preliminary design and cost estimate. The bidding process closed Thursday (26 Jan 2012).
"We have to make sure we can do it," says Mr. Buchardt.
He says 10 engineering and consulting firms showed up to the mandatory preliminary site meeting.
They have about $1 million budgeted for the work, but they've already spent about $40,000 dismantling the current unsafe bridge.
Assuming the consultant has good news and a construction contract can be issued, Mr. Buchardt figures it will likely be 2013 before the trail link is
re-established.
Canadian Pacific Railway owns the bridge, so any construction plans would have to also be approved by them.
