Train Derails by Kootenay Lake
Proctor British Columbia - Canadian Pacific Railway is confirming a derailment in the Proctor area on Kootenay Lake Friday afternoon.
At about 3 p.m. a work train was struck by falling rock. One locomotive and one flat car went off the tracks.
The flat car was transporting a large excavator which went into the water.
Eye witness Troy Pennock lives on the other side of the lake from the tracks. He says he heard a loud screeching noise and then caught a glimpse of something
"huge and yellow" go into the water that caused "a huge splash".
CPR says the rail cars are upright and there are no injuries.
Crews and environmental experts are on scene and the situation is being assessed.
