Bear Killed on Train Tracks
Canmore Alberta - A bear closure has been posted for the Old Camp day use area and the area south of Highway 1A to Bill Griffiths
Creek from Old Camp west to the Alpine Club of Canada access road between Canmore and Exshaw.
The move comes just a few days after a black bear cub was struck and killed on the Canadian Pacific train tracks near the day use area.
The cub was apparently feeding along the tracks with its sibling and mother when he was struck by the train.
Bears routinely seek out the rail line to feed on grain dropped from passing cars.
It is the first such reported incident along the CP rail line near Canmore this year.
CP and Banff National Park have recently stepped up a campaign to try and put an end to fatal confrontations between trains and bears that has claimed nine
Grizzlys and an unknown number of black bears in the past 10 years in Banff and Yoho national parks.
