Letter from E. Hunter Harrison
Calgary Alberta - Dear CP employees:
Since my letter to you on 29 Jun 2012, I have spent considerable time visiting facilities, yards, and frontline employees to familiarize myself with our
operations.
I am pleased to now have my initial thoughts verified that CP is a company of very capable railroaders. In fact, you and your colleagues are as good as I have
seen anywhere.
I look forward to working with the team to improve CP's service offering and drive long-term shareholder value.
In my travels over the last few weeks I met with customers, employees, and stakeholders to share my thoughts on the potential that lies within CP. You may be
aware of some early changes I have made to increase efficiency, improve asset utilization, and enhance train service in time-sensitive segments. Our intermodal
and merchandise customers should see an immediate improvement with these recent service enhancements. We'll keep you updated as more of these opportunities are
identified and set into motion.
As I have said many times, Canadian Pacific is a strong franchise with positive market opportunities. We'll work together in the coming months to not only
enhance our operational performance to improve service to customers, but also to realize improved asset utilization and cost control as part of each of our
roles. I am completely committed to working with you to build a stronger CP. Change is never easy. But we will get better at what we do for our customers, our
colleagues and families, and to drive shareholder value.
The future is bright for CP. And in our pursuit of that future, we will make a significant impact on the North American railway industry.
CP is full of innovative and hardworking employees and I recognize the great potential that lies within our company. I look forward to working with you to
deliver unprecedented service to our customers and ensuring that CP realizes its fullest potential.
E. Hunter Harrison - President and Chief Executive Officer.
