Grain Train Spills Near Inkster
Winnipeg Manitoba - Eleven rail cars of grain spilled onto railway tracks in northwest Winnipeg Saturday.
A CP Rail train went off the tracks around 5:15 p.m.
CP spokesperson Andy Cummings said the main tracks were cleared for safety and re-opened Sunday so the grain can keep flowing.
"There were no injuries, and there's no threat to the public," Cummings said. "I can't say zero impact, but we don't anticipate major impact" to shipping times, he said.
He couldn't say what caused the crash, near Oak Point Highway and Inkster Boulevard.
"Every incident is different. And it takes time to gather everything up. We will fully investigate," Cummings said.
The train derailed where a branch line converged with a main line, going from a single track to a double track. The branch line remains closed Sunday afternoon, as 11 cars lie crumpled by the tracks.
But the main line is open.
"We have inspected it thoroughly, and it's in the past. We don't re-open it until it's safe."
