Canada - In 1915, Sir William Van Horne, president of the Canadian Pacific Railway, died at age 72.
The American-born Van Horne was appointed general manager of the CPR in 1882.
Under his management, the problem-plagued railway was finally completed from Montreal, Quebec, to Port Moody, British Columbia, in 1885.
