Truck Hauling Potatoes Hit by Train Near Portage
Portage la Prairie Manitoba - A 41-year-old truck driver is in hospital after his vehicle was hit by a CP freight train near Portage la
Prairie this afternoon.
RCMP say the heavy truck, which was hauling potatoes, was driving on a road about five kilometres north of the city when it was struck by a westbound train at
a marked railway crossing just before 1 p.m. CT Tuesday.
The male driver was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries that are believed to be non-life-threatening, police said in a release.
Crew members on the train were not injured.
No one else was involved in the crash, according to police.
Crews are currently on the scene of the collision, cleaning up some diesel that had spilled from the truck.
