Regina Council Voting on CP Rail Land Purchase
Regina Saskatchewan - Regina city council is being asked to spend $7.5 million to buy land just north of the downtown from Canadian
Pacific Railway.
The purchase of seven hectares (17.4 acres) of land along Dewdney Avenue between Albert Street and Broad Street is on the agenda at council's Tuesday meeting.
The city says the land will be eventually be redeveloped into homes, offices, and other mixed uses. It won't be for the new stadium, however. That project is
slated for Evraz Place further to the west.
The city will also vote on spending $2.1 million to prepare the land for development, including some environmental cleanup.
The deal requires CP to leave the property by July 2014. The company is moving its operations to the global transportation hub on the western edge of the city.
CP will also be required to build a new pedestrian bridge to connect the downtown to the warehouse district.
