American Calls the Shots and Canadians Suffer
High River Alberta - Re: "CP Slashing Jobs in Cost-Cutting Move," 5 Dec 2002.
While the federal government attempts to find a cure for the ailing economy, trying to alleviate the problem with Band-Aid solutions, an American, standing on
American soil, declares that 4,500 jobs will be slashed at an iconic Canadian company.
Are the feds really blind as to why the economy is crashing?
Hunter Harrison, CEO of Canadian Pacific Railway, while in New York City, has declared that to make more money for the rich shareholders, we must again
sacrifice the middle-class employees.
That's more Canadian mortgages that won't be paid, more Canadian automobiles that won't be purchased, more Canadian families without work, on EI and then
welfare.
All of this decided by an American who could not care less about the economic slaughter and personal hardship he has committed north of the 49th parallel.
When will the government start protecting the Canadian people from takeovers by foreigners who just think of Canadian citizens as collateral damage in order to
line their pockets with Canadian dollars?
It is time to start protecting Canadians, Canadian companies, and Canadian natural resources, before we become the next Third World nation.
