Kenora's Railroad Museum is Open

Kenora Ontario - The Kenora Canadian Pacific Rail retirees are proud of the role they have played in Canada's history.

The result is the Lake of the Woods Railroaders Museum.

It features artifacts that may not have been seen for years, as well as an virtual tour that takes you from Vancouver to Thunder Bay.

Ann Baker says they've opened their doors during the winter months before, and she encourages visitors to stop by this week.

They're open 3, 4, and 5 Jan 2013, which is Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

The admission charge is two dollars per person or five dollars for a family.

They're encouraging everyone to come and enjoy a model train display that will take them from Vancouver to Thunder Bay and includes all the highlights in between.

They also have an original six hockey train that we'll be running.

We would certainly appreciate the local people to come out to enjoy a fantastic ride and history lesson, she says.

"Many of our volunteers are not retired railway workers. They're just model railroad buffs who enjoy working with model trains and they're interested in the history of the railway. We really appreciate all the work that they have done. Their work makes it one of the favorite spots to visit in town. People have come from all across Canada and all over the world. It's something that makes us hold our heads up pretty high. and be proud," added Baker.

A wonderful scale model, located in the lower level of the museum building, was constructed by volunteer model railroaders, which depicts the Canadian Pacific Railway from the Lakehead through the historical explanations of Canadian Pacific's role in helping to unite Canada.
