Man Hit by Train in Critical Condition
Parry Sound Ontario - Police are investigating after a train struck a 47-year-old man man, leaving him in critical condition, Wednesday
evening.
Wasauksing First Nation resident Jeffery Spencer Nanibush was airlifted to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto with major injuries after being hit by the train near
Park Lane in the Town of Parry Sound, according to the OPP.
According to a witness interviewed by police, Nanibush was seen walking in a northerly direction, up the steep embankment towards the railway tracks, just west
of the nearby bridge.
The witness further advised that the man then sat on the tracks and, shortly thereafter, a train approached, travelling west.
As the Canadian Pacific train rounded the slight bend after the trestle, the conductor noticed what first was thought to be an animal on the tracks, but as the
train got closer, the crew realized it was a person and threw the train into emergency braking.
CP employees immediately notified police and railway traffic was stopped.
The OPP and CP police are investigating the accident.
According to police alcohol was a factor in the accident.
