CP Rail Heritage Park Welcomes Equipment
Portage la Prairie Manitoba - The Canadian Pacific Railway Heritage Park and Interpretive Centre have added impressive pieces to their
site.
On Saturday, a dedication ceremony for "Snoopy and Friends" was held to showcase the diesel locomotive donated by Manitoba Hydro, a caboose, and mail
baggage car donated by CP Rail.
Save the CP Station Committee Chair Vic Edwards says the ceremony is stage one of the centre opening.
"2000 is when we started this project, and I've been fortunate to have a number of volunteers that stayed with us, augmented by the Model Railroad Club,
and they're still very much an active part of the community."
He says the Committee sends out a monthly news letter and community support is helping them.
"We're very fortunate that they're still with us and they're continuing support.
Now we just want to keep it going until we get the balance of the station completed.
That is, the interior completed, and we've been fortunate a lot of donations have been coming in, not only articles of equipment, pictures, and stories of
heritage."
The dedication unveiled a plaque commemorating the day, in addition to a photo presentation to Dwight Morden for his work in preparing the site for the
locomotive and caboose.
