Derailment West of Pincher Creek
Burmis Alberta - Several carloads of grain ended up on the ground after a derailment on the Canadian Pacific railways line west of
Pincher Creek.
The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. on Monday, 25 Nov 2013, when several cars on a westbound grain train derailed around Burmis on Canadian Pacific's
Crowsnest subdivision.
Canadian Pacific spokesperson Salem Woodrow confirmed to the Echo that two cars filled with corn left the tracks in the incident, with one spilling its
load.
No hazardous materials were released into the environment, and there were no injuries.
The scene is currently in the care of Canadian Pacific Railway police, and crews are working throughout the night to clean up the area.
Monday's incident comes in the wake of a series of railway accidents in Alberta, most notably two high profile derailments on CN's transcontinental route west
of Edmonton including a fiery wreck near Gainford.
