Holiday Train Rakes in $2 Million
for Food Banks Across North America

North America - A record $2 million has been raised to support food banks across North America, thanks to the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train.

"This was a record year for the Holiday Train and Canadian Pacific congratulates all those who rallied together in supporting communities in their fight against hunger," CP CEO E. Hunter Harrison said in a statement.

Two brightly decorated freight trains made the journey across Canada and the U.S. over the last three weeks.

Thousands of Holiday Train supporters, with donations to local food banks, were treated to a free concert from artists such as Melanie Doane, Jim Cuddy, Brothers Dube, and Willy Porter.

Now, more than 150 communities will split the cash and 300,000 pounds of food.

The 15th annual event was bolstered by top musicians performing live on the modified boxcar stage.

Three signature events in Hamilton, Calgary, and Cottage Grove, Manitoba, featured Sheryl Crow, Sarah McLachlan, Tom Cochrane with Red Rider, Great Big Sea, Natalie McMaster, The Tenors, and Take 6.

Since 1999, nearly $9.5 million and 3.3 million pounds of food have been raised.
