STARS Air Ambulance Called
to Semi/Train Collision

Pilot Butte Saskatchewan - A man has been airlifted from the scene of a semi/train crash in Pilot Butte.

It happened east of Regina along Highway 1.

RCMP and emergency services were called out after the truck hit the rear portion of the train at Butte Street and Railway Avenue early in the afternoon.

STARS Air Ambulance was called in from Regina, airlifting one person into the city for treatment after they were pulled from the truck.

The full extent of their injuries is not known, although RCMP Sargent Paul Dawson said the man was taken away from the scene with serious injuries.

The train tore through the cab of the semi and stopped about half-a-kilometre down the track.

The train did not sustain much damage, with only a piece of metal stuck on the one end.

Traffic is flowing through the scene without delay, according to the Mounties.

Sargent Dawson said there's a team on the scene reconstructing exactly how the crash happened.

He says at this point in the investigation, it's too early to tell.

"But there's a stop sign that you can see underneath the wreckage of the vehicle," he said.

Sargent Dawson said there was quite extensive damage to the cab but their first priority was the health of the driver.
