Sicamous British Columbia - The reason as to why a truck crossed through a ditch and ended up on a train track in Sicamous is still being investigated, after a CP train struck the vehicle Tuesday afternoon.
 
On 18 Mar 2014, at approximately 2:40 p.m. Sicamous RCMP were called to a collision involving a pickup truck and a Canadian Pacific Railway train.
 
"An eastbound Canadian Pacific train made contact with a vehicle on CP tracks.
 
This did not occur at a crossing," said Media Relations Coordinator for CP Rail, Salem Woodrow.
 
"Our crews sounded the whistle to try alert the vehicle but was unable to stop the train as it can take up to a mile or more for a train to stop.
 
The crew did put the train in emergency brake application."
 
When police arrived they found a silver Dodge pickup facing eastbound, and partially resting on the railway tracks near Solsaqua Road.
 
The lone male driver of the truck was rushed via air ambulance to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops with serious injuries.
 
His current condition is unknown.
 
"Canadian Pacific Police services is currently looking into the circumstances. The initial investigation indicates the vehicle left the highway, went through the ditch, and ended up on our tracks," said Woodrow.
 
The trains crew did not sustain any injuries in the collision.
 
Woodrow says the train was also undamaged.
 
"The locomotive was inspected and after going through thorough safety and mechanical inspections it was released."
 
CP is not commenting on whether any charges will be laid against the driver until it is determined why the man and his truck were on the tracks.
