Vancouver City Hall Must Act Say Gardeners
Vancouver British Columbia - Residents along the Arbutus Corridor say they're becoming frustrated Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson has
yet to respond to them regarding the Canadian Pacific Railway's notice to evict the community gardeners.
But the mayor's office said that's not the case and it is well aware of the group's concern.
Spokeswoman for the Maple Community Garden, Krista James, said despite attempting to enlist Robertson's help, the mayor has yet to get in touch with
them.
"It does not seem to us that the mayor is on our side," James said.
"The mayor hasn't been able to communicate with us, we've contacted the office and asked for him to speak to us, he hasn't contacted us to tell us what
his plan is, or any plan to protect the gardens."
She said as far as the group understands the situation, the city's refusal to allow Canadian Pacific to develop the line as it wants has led to the eviction
notice.
Robertson recently wrote a letter to CP Rail asking them to keep the corridor as a "greenway" until it could be used for light rail
transit.
As part of their campaign James said Maple Community Garden residents have written a letter to Robertson and started a petition.
She said the petition was just put online and the group is hoping also gain significant support during the upcoming Kitsilano Days festival.
A spokesman for the mayor's office said the group's letter to Robertson was just received yesterday despite being dated last week.

Editor's Note: Here's a suggestion... why don't the gardeners buy the property from the owner? *o)
