No Leaks or Public Safety Issues in 24 Car Derailment
Moose Jaw Saskatchewan - Twenty-four Canadian Pacific rail cars carrying a combination of lumber, asphalt, and gasoline derailed about
35 kilometres west of Moose Jaw on Wednesday afternoon.
CP spokesperson Salem Woodrow confirmed those details and told the Times-Herald that the incident occurred around 13:30.
"There is no leak and there are no public safety issues," said Salem.
The Moose Jaw Fire Department responded to the derailment where they assisted the RCMP in establishing a safety perimeter.
Fire crews also inspected the derailment for any leaks, which they didn't find.
There were also no injuries.
Heavy equipment was also being brought in to assist CP crews with the derailment and crews are expected to remain on scene throughout the night.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has deployed a team of investigators to the site where more information will be gathered and the causes of the
derailment will be assessed in an ongoing manner.
"CP takes safety very seriously," said Woodrow.
"It's the highest of all priorities."
More on this story is expected to evolve in the days ahead.
Nathan Liewicki.
