Stoney Creek Bridge 1987
Stoney Creek British Columbia - This is what we would have called an odd ball staged photo.
It is a photo of CP 5845 with a caboose in tow on the then newly completed Stoney Creek Bridge along the "new" Rogers Pass line.
The photo was taken in the Fall of 1987 as part of the filming of the Rogers Pass Project video titled "Challenge".
It was nearing the end of the project and after four years of filming the construction process, we needed to begin the closing sequences.
As such, we created a mock test train (which you see in the VHS video) to show viewers everything being checked out before putting the new line into
service.
Naturally we did some stills as well to document the event.
Old CP 5845 probably never looked so good.
The unit was cleaned up spic and span for the filming, and in those days of course, we still used cabooses (note is also very clean).
It took the whole day to film it going up and down the whole line which also included filming the train from a helicopter.
Ironically, less than a year after this picture was taken, CP 5845 was renumbered CP 6073 and carries that number today.
It is, or was, working down in Minnesota, USA.
The area also looks very different today than it did in 1987.
The vegetation has come back in full force and the bridge and line look well used.
Steve Morris.
