CPR Station Further Delayed
Goderich Ontario - The developer who is remodelling Goderich's former CPR railway station into a beachfront restaurant is optimistic
the project will pay off, despite numerous challenges.
Herb Marshall tells Bayshore Broadcasting News he had hoped to have the attraction open by the fall, but admits that won't happen.
Marshall is looking toward a launch next spring, largely because of unforeseen extra considerations.
The structure was lifted up and moved from its original site to a spot closer to the beach early this year.
He says the foundation's construction had to be changed, the floor joists had to be replaced, and part of the former baggage area had to be virtually
rebuilt.
Marshall mentions that all the negative aspects of the job have been outweighed by the positive things uncovered during the renovation.
He says when the false ceiling was removed it uncovered a gem of century-old railway architecture.
Marshall says the original ceiling is over two storey's high and contains crown mouldings and medallion-style light-fixture areas that were popular when the
station was built in 1908.
He pledges to meet his spring deadline for opening, and promises it will be worth waiting for.
