Train Hits Stalled Truck
Near Fort Langley

Langley British Columbia - Breaking down on the railroad tracks isn't just a Hollywood plot device.

A semi-tractor trailer driver was uninjured when his vehicle got stuck on the tracks at a level crossing on River Road by Armstrong Road east of Fort Langley early Friday morning.

The incident happened at about 04:39.

The driver could not get his rig and empty trailer moved before a westbound train hauling coal hit.

The truck ended up on the north side of the tracks while the trailer ended up on the south side and the front of the 8,500 foot long train was finally stopped near 240th Street.

"The truck and tractor were damaged severely," said Langley RCMP Cpl. Croll.

But no one was injured and the train did not leave the tracks, although the front sustained damage.

CN Police and Commercial Vehicle inspectors will work with the RCMP on the investigation.

"The tracks could be closed for a good deal of the day," he said.

Road traffic is also affected as River Road is closed from 240th Street to Armstrong Road and motorists are being diverted around.
