CP Rail Suing Speedway for Damaged Equipment
Winnipeg Manitoba - The company at the heart of one of Winnipeg's worst fires is facing a major new lawsuit.
Speedway International and its owner Royce Rostecki are being sued by Canadian Pacific Railway.
Speedway's plant in St. Boniface went up in flames nearly two years ago, causing explosions, widespread evacuations, and $1 million damage.
Now CP rail is suing them for $33,000 in damages to equipment.
The railway says it had an agreement with Speedway to maintain a stretch of railway and use some rail cars but it says Speedway never told them it was storing
highly combustible, dangerous, chemicals in the cars and breaking a bunch of regulations.
This is the latest chapter in a legal battle that started right after the fire.
The company and owner Rosteki are scheduled to be back in court next year, defending themselves against a series of allegations from the City of
Winnipeg.
The city claims both failed to follow a whole slew of bylaws.
Rostecki and the company could both be facing thousands more in fines if convicted.
Speedway has not filed anything to defend itself in this latest lawsuit.
None of the allegations have been proven in court.
