Rail Ties Spark Fire on Train
Kemptville Ontario - North Grenville firefighters battled a blaze atop three rail cars loaded with wooden railway ties near Bedell Road
just south of Kemptville Tuesday.
Fire was noticed by a CP construction crew on the line from Brockville to Kemptville about 11:00 and the train was dismantled with the affected cars shuttled
to a siding, said North Grenville Fire Chief Paul Hutt.
Fifteen firefighters with six vehicles responded to the scene and worked a long day ensuring the ties were separated and free of fire, said Hutt, adding there
were no injuries.
"There was very little damage. The ties were old and the cars are made of steel", said the chief.
He said there's nothing to suggest the fire was intentionally set and is looking into the possibility of mechanical failure being the cause as part of an
investigation.
He said the fire did not create any environmental concerns and firefighters handled the situation "quite efficiently and effectively".
