Preparing for Railway Emergencies
Windsor Ontario - Officials with the Canadian Pacific Railway are taking steps today to make sure local first responders are ready in
case of a dangerous goods emergency at the rail tunnel between Windsor and Detroit.
CP spokesperson Andy Cummings says they're leading a technical tour with agencies from both sides of the border.
"Firefighters often appreciate the opportunity to be familiarized with rail equipment, which is something we're uniquely suited to do,' says Cummings, who
adds the training isn't prompted by one specific event.
"It's something that we've been doing for a very long time, as much as we're the safest way to transport dangerous goods over land, we feel it's very
important to be prepared."
Today's exercise is taking place primarily on the Detroit side of the border from 08:30 to 16:30.
