Dog Killed in Second Train Incident

Cochrane Alberta - Cochrane RCMP are advising people to refrain from walking on railway tracks following a second incident in less than a week along the Canadian Pacific mainline.

Two men, ages 49 and 35, walking their dogs narrowly missed being struck by a westbound train but one of the dogs was killed around 10:00 on 19 Jul 2015 about one kilometre west of the West Pointe neighbourhood.

They were walking eastbound on the railway tracks, when they encountered a westbound train, said Sgt. Jeff Campbell, of the Cochrane RCMP.

The two males ran back westbound, and narrowly avoided being struck by the train, and one sustained a minor arm injury when he jumped clear of the tracks.

The RCMP and CP Police are continuing to investigate the incident and charges could be laid.

"This is the second incident involving pedestrians on the railway tracks in Cochrane within a week," states the release from Campbell.

"The RCMP are reminding people to refrain from walking on the rail tracks as it is private property, it is extremely dangerous, and could result in charges under the Railway Act or the Trespass Act."
