From Phoenix to Saskatoon New Kinsmen Park Train Delivered to Permanent Home
Saskatoon Saskatchewan - After being hauled nearly 3,000 kilometres in just two days, Kinsmen Park's new train has arrived in
Saskatoon.
The $1.5 million, shiny red locomotive, will be a central attraction in PotashCorp Playland at Kinsmen Park, which is now set to open 5 Aug 2015.
The train was packed into a huge semi-trailer in Phoenix on Tuesday and arrived along the South Saskatchewan River on Thursday.
Crews were on hand, with a forklift and other construction vehicles, to lift the train out of the trailer, clear away tree branches, and move massive pieces
around.
"Anytime you finish a train, it's a work of art," said Arizona Railroad Depot owner Barry Stanaback last week, as he prepared to send the train his
company built off to its permanent destination.
"The bottom line is it's been a year-and-a-half in the making."
Approved by city council in 2011, the train is part of the Kinsmen Park and Area Master Plan.
In addition to the train, Kinsmen Park will feature a refurbished carousel and bright yellow ferris wheel as part of PotashCorp Playland.
Rides on the train will cost $2.
Kinsmen Park has been closed since 2013.
