Cochrane Train Deaths Traumatic for Many Involved
Cochrane Alberta - For the second time in a month, a teenager has been hit and killed by a train.
It happened early Sunday morning.
Sgt. Jeff Campbell says early indications in the investigation suggest it may not have been an accident.
"Please stay off the tracks. It not only has devastating affects for families of the victims, but also for the engineers, you know, the CP workers,"
he said.
"This is traumatic. They deal with hundreds of near misses every year and also the unfortunate fatalities, so this has a rippling effect throughout the
community."
In mid-July, another teen died while walking along the tracks.
Then just three days later two men in their 40s had a near miss with a train while walking their dogs.
The men escaped with minor injuries, but one of the dogs was killed.
Campbell says anyone walking along the tracks could face fines from $287 up to $5,000.
"You're not to be on the rail tracks at all," he said.
"It is an offence under the federal railway act and also the provincial trespass act."
