Langley British Columbia - Two people have been airlifted to hospital, one with life-threatening injuries, after an ambulance collided with a
train Friday morning near Glover Road and 216th Street.
Police received reports at 11:22 of a collision at the intersection at Milner in the Township of Langley, where 216 becomes Crush Crescent as it crosses
Glover Road, according to a release.
An attendant who was in the rear of the ambulance is currently in stable condition and a patient who was being transported is said to be suffering
life-threatening injuries.
The ambulance's driver is suffering some back pain but otherwise uninjured and no train personnel sustained injuries.
Cpl. Holly Largy said representatives from CP have arrived to assist with the investigation and ICARS, the RCMP's Integrated Collision Analysis and
Reconstruction Service, is heading to the scene.
Traffic is being redirected from the area where roads are closed in all directions.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
B.C. Ambulance Service hasn't yet returned requests for more information.
Langley resident Tyson Hunter, who took photographs of the accident's aftermath, said he witnessed the collision.
"I was in the car with my buddy and we heard the train just laying on the horn," Hunter said.
"We turned around to look at the train and realized there must be something on the track."
Hunter said the ambulance appeared to be inching forward to get off the track after being caught behind the railway crossing's gate arm.
"He probably should have gone right through it, but he was trying to inch forward and couldn't get off the track in time," he said.
"It kind of hit the back end and spun him right around and the front end kind of hit the train again as it spun, but luckily it wasn't against the train
as it kept going."
Hunter couldn't confirm whether the ambulance driver was able to escape the wreckage.
