CP Estimates US$30,000 Damage
in Thanksgiving Fire

Portage Wisconsin USA - Canadian Pacific Railway is reporting roughly US$30,000 in damage following a vehicle fire on Thanksgiving Day.

At 13:51 a Portage police officer responded to a fire call at the railroad station on West Oneida Street.

The officer reported seeing a Canadian Pacific pickup truck on fire, with flames engulfing the engine and spreading to the cab.

The Portage Fire Department responded with two trucks carrying seven firefighters who put out the fire.

As of Monday the fire department was still investigating the incident.

According to Fire Chief Clayton Simonson, the vehicle was a Chevy Silverado pickup, specially raised and fitted for railway inspection.

Exactly what started the fire and how long it had been going has not yet been determined, he said.

On Tuesday afternoon, a representative from Canadian Pacific said the cause of the fire was an electrical malfunction.
