Calgary Alberta - A terrible injury in a rail yard a few weeks ago cost Kennedy Rhodes her left leg.
But the 13-year-old is refusing to let her accident keep her from doing the things she loves.
That includes hanging out with the 70th Mighty Explorers of the Baden Powell Service Association Scouting Group.
"We're like a little family," Rhodes said.
On Saturday, she was elated to be able to accompany fellow members on a photo scavenger hunt in downtown Calgary, in which they were tasked with taking
pictures of themselves in front of different landmarks.
Wet weather thwarted original plans to explore outside, and the hunt was taken indoors to the Plus-15 system.
But rain couldn't dampen Rhodes' spirits.
"She was ready for life to go back to normal as quickly as possible," said her mother, Morgan Gladu.
"So having the explorers group facilitating these things for her is amazing."
Rhodes was hanging out with friends in Inglewood 20 May 2016 when they heard a train rumble past.
One of her pals had discussed how to "train hop," so they decided to head to the Canadian Pacific rail yard and give it a try.
Her friend jumped onto the train with no problems.
But when Rhodes grabbed onto the ladder on the side of a car, the train was moving too fast.
She was dragged before her left leg got caught under the train.
"As soon as the wheels hit, I let go and went into shock. I heard two train cars run over it, and I pulled it out," Rhodes recalled.
Rhodes and her friend screamed for help.
Neighbours soon showed up, called 911, and comforted her until paramedics arrived.
