Regina Saskatchewan - Traffic on Ring Road near Winnipeg Street was delayed on Tuesday morning after a crash between a semi and a
train.
The crash happened shortly before 05:00.
Police say it was a low speed crash, and while no injuries have been reported, the semi-trailer is leaking fluids.
Around 06:50 the train was moved from the scene, but the semi continued to block traffic on Ring Road.
The collision serves as a reminder of the dangers of the crossing.
Over the past 10 years, there have been seven collisions in the area.
Four of those crashes resulted in injuries.
There has long been mounting frustration from the public about having a train crossing on a major city roadway with no crossing arms.
There are a number of major intersections and side streets with rail way crossings throughout Regina.
Safety around them has long been an issue.
The city did roll out a campaign last year called "see tracks-think train", an initiative that had large logos painted on the ground near nine
railway track locations aimed at getting people to stop and look when they see tracks.
While that campaign focused on pedestrian safety, there are still concerns about how to keep motorists safe at crossings.
According to the city, a change to infrastructure would be costly.
"Whether it's a level crossing or some kind of an upgrade, that's an infrastructure issue, and those could range to $100 million plus for the cost of
doing that. So, it's how do we find the partnerships and resources to actually get that done," said Mayor Michael Fougere.
They city says the addition of crossing arms falls under their jurisdiction of Transport Canada.
Without an immediate solution, SGI recommends staying patient while trains pass and remembering that trains have the right of way.
