Silvis Illinois USA - Shiny new re-manufactured Canadian Pacific Railway SD40-2 locomotives now carry the SD40-3 model
designation.
The units were re-built by National Railway Equipment Company (NRE) at their Silvis, Illinois, USA, shops.
Re-manufactured locomotives are disassembled to the frame and their components are distributed throughout the shop to be qualified and replaced as
needed.
Mechanical, electrical, and rotating equipment parts are re-manufactured using today's finest technology.
The main frame, cab, long hood, and truck frames are sandblasted, checked for wear, repaired, and completely painted.
Re-manufacturing costs are about 60 percent of a new locomotive.
