Galt Railway Park Offering
Ticket to Ride

Lethbridge Alberta - The Great Canadian Plains Railway Society cordially invites you to be their guest for a unique railway adventure at the Galt Historic Railway Park for its "Ticket to Ride" events on 18 and 25 Aug 2018.

"We have a tour given by our summer tour guides," explains Bill Hillen, treasurer of the Great Canadian Plains Railway Society.

"It includes the crossing of the border within the Coutts/Sweetgrass International Customs Depot (built in 1890), and shows the actual function of the customs and railway of that time. And once that is completed, guests are welcome to join us on our speeder cars, and we will have them join us on a trip across the American border and back into Canada. There is lots of pictures to be taken, and it is all about the authentic ride."

The border crossing is simulated, and no actual passports or IDs will be required, Hillen stresses.

The speeder ride takes about 20 minutes and cost $10 per person.

Kids 10 and under ride for free if accompanied by an adult.

"Back when this border crossing station was built in 1890 it was the official port of entry into southern Alberta," explains Hillen, "and it was only one of three buildings built like that in Western Canada. This is the only one of its kind left. Speeder riders will certainly have to declare what they purchased at our gift shop as they come through our station," he adds with a chuckle.

"And all guns must be left at the Canadian border."

The Galt Historic Railway Park is located just off Highway 4 near Stirling.
