Morant's Curve Alberta - For the past few decades or more, the Bow Valley Trail roadway adjacent to Morant's Curve in Banff National Park
has been slowly slumping down the slope towards the CP track.
So Parks Canada had this stretch of roadway rebuilt over the past few years with substantial concrete and rock gabion retaining walls, the
"improvements" included a paved viewing area.
The design is nice to look at, but as you can see, they forgot to cut down the trees between the viewing area and the track.
I suspect that in five years or so the opportunity to take photographs at this location will be lost for good.
Already, one can not take a photo of an westbound train from the viewing area because of the trees, five more feet of growth and the same will be the case for
eastbound trains.
The spiral tunnels all over again, yet thousands of trees have been removed for the recent twinning of the Trans-Canada Highway from Lake Louise to Wapta
Lake.
Removing 50 or so trees at Morant's would do the
trick.
They could always plant 50 new trees somewhere else in the park so as not to impact the environment in a negative way, or is that just too radical for Park
Planners?
Nice though that they finally put up a sign as you approach the "Viewpoint".
