Headingly Manitoba - The RCMP confirms that two people are dead after a collision near Winnipeg involving a freight train and a pickup
truck that resulted in the truck being dragged onto a rail bridge over the Assiniboine River.
Police say a 75-year-old man who was driving the pickup and a 65-year-old woman who was a passenger died at the scene when the crash happened Monday afternoon
on a busy road through the community of Headingley.
Both people lived in the Rural Municipality of Headingley.
Investigators say it appears the collision happened at a crossing before the vehicle was pushed onto the bridge.
Photos taken of the scene show the truck wedged between a rail and a bridge girder.
The crash drew a number of emergency services and prompted a brief search of the river for possible victims.
