Parksville Vancouver Island British Columbia - Thank you to Norma Reimer (Letters, PQB News, 24 Sep 2019) for the most sensible letter I
have seen to date, regarding rail service up Vancouver Island.
The Europeans can cut a tunnel through a mountain and build a railway connecting two cities and we can't resurrect an existing railway?
Instead, we want to destroy the only alternative system for travel along the east coast and a very good alternative for tourists who would love to view and
take pictures of our beautiful coast, as they would in any other country.
Our growing and aging population will take the opportunity also, as well as people who do not own a car, or do not desire to fight the horrendous traffic,
which is still increasing.
I only know one person who rode her bicycle from Parksville to Victoria (five hours), in good weather, and she is a professional tri-athlete.
Naysayers said the Canada Line was a useless waste of money and would not be used, look at the situation now.
They did not build platforms long enough to accommodate the extra two or three cars now required.
Ed Fergusson.
