Cambridge Ontario - This is the frightening moment a school bus narrowly avoids being hit by a train after it drives under a crossing
barrier and stops only inches from the tracks.
Footage taken by a concerned driver in the queue for the crossing shows the yellow school bus pulled up to wait with the barrier jammed down on the
roof.
The incident occurred on 29 Oct 2019 in Cambridge.
The bus had stopped further than it should have under the crossing barrier and the red signals to indicate that vehicles should wait are
flashing.
The Canadian Pacific (CP) freight train then slowly approaches, missing the front of the bus by only a few inches.
The driver of the train also looks out at the bus which is waiting dangerously close to the tracks.
The huge train continues to rumble past as the bus makes no attempt to move backwards to a safer position.
Signs are visible that say "Do not stop on the railroad tracks".
As the camera zooms in on the bus, children are seen peering out of the back window to try and see what is going on.
The person who took the footage said, "I arrived at a train crossing intersection and noticed a school bus stopped too close, and the crossing arm came
down on the bus. I was concerned that it might get hit by the oncoming train so I decided to take a video in case of an accident and possible inquiries into
what happened. Once the train was passing the bus I decided to keep recording to show my friends what kind of stupid stuff I see on my daily
travels."
