Crash Involving Two Semi-Trucks and Train Shuts Highway 1 North of Yale
8 January 2021
Fraser Canyon British Columbia - Highway 1 through the Fraser Canyon is closed after a major incident involving two semi-trucks and a
train.
As first reported by CTV News, two semi-trucks collided which caused one to roll and end up in front of an oncoming train.
Around 18:30 DriveBC tweeted that a major vehicle incident had happened six kilometres north of Yale and that the Trans-Canada Highway was closed in both
directions.
The highway remained closed as of 22:30, Friday, 8 Jan 2021, with no detour available.
Emelie Peacock.
The DriveBC map indicates the accident occurred at approximately N49.614453 W121.410336. There are no grade crossings at that location but the
Trans-Canada Highway is parallel and close to Canadian Pacific's rail line. Reports do not indicate whether the train involved belonged to CN or CP.
That portion of the Canyon is Co-production trackage whereby the railway's trains share each others tracks. As of 10:00 Pacific time on 9 Jan 2021
Drive BC has removed this event from its website so one assumes the highway is open again. I can find no further reports about the train involved.
