Lamont Alberta - The federal transportation department is putting in $5 million to increase the efficiency of rail logistics at the Alberta Midland Railway Terminal northeast of Edmonton.
 
It will provide additional capacity to assemble trains, storage space, and access to both CN and CP rail networks.
 
The upgrades will improve fluidity and reduce bottlenecks for both railways.
 
The project will add 460 additional rail car storage spots, and more than 40,000 feet of new track, including a new connection to the Canadian Pacific Willingdon Subdivision.
 
The project will also allow Alberta Midland Railway Terminal to handle unit trains up to 8,500 feet in length for either Canadian National or Canadian Pacific shippers.
 
The construction will create approximately 210 jobs.
 
The money is coming from the National Trade Corridors Fund, which provides funding for investment in critical assets that support economic activity, and the movement of goods and people in Canada.
