Washington District of Columbia USA - Travelers from Michigan may soon have another way to get to Canada as Amtrak plans to add a service
route that would take passengers from Detroit to Toronto with a stop in Windsor as well.
According to a press release issued Thursday, Amtrak has announced support for a proposed merger between CP and KCS railways.
As part of the merger proposal, CP has committed to working with Amtrak to expand offerings, which includes adding the Detroit to Toronto route.
The route from Detroit to Toronto would travel through the Detroit River Tunnel between Michigan and Ontario to Windsor and then out to Toronto.
The route would include connections to VIA Rail Canada.
However, there is no timetable for when the route would be made available to the public.
Along with that route, Amtrak is also to increase the frequency of trains running between Chicago and Milwaukee, along with expanding that service route to
include a stop in St. Paul, Minnesota.
The agreement between CP and KCS is expected to be presented to the U.S. Surface Transportation Board for approval soon.
