The First Direct Rail Link Between Canada the Pacific Mexico United States and Canada Will Operate in North America
13 April 2022

North America - The first direct rail link between Canada, the Pacific, Mexico, United States, and Canada will operate in North America.

After months of fluctuations and negotiations, the connection between Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern $31 billion transaction is a fact.

Named CPKC, the new company will have more than 32,000 kilometres of railways aimed at serving important industries for the region such as automotive, energy, and agricultural grains.

Thus, ports at both ends of Canada, Vancouver and St. John's, will be connected to the U.S. Midwest, which in turn will lead to other stops in southern Texas and New Orleans, and feed across the Laredo and Brownsville border.

Mexico is the key element of the connection.

"We are very successful in creating an incredible cross-border right between the United States Mexico", Patrick Ottensmeyer, Kansas City South President and CEO, says in an interview, "We're involved in development and trade between the two countries. Our cross-border business has been at the top of our portfolio for many years."

In this sense, Keith Kreil, the leader of Canadian Pacific promised that this would be a historic day for both companies as it becomes the backbone of connecting its customers with new markets.

"This will increase competition in the U.S. rail network and provide significant environmental benefits while at the same time boosting economic growth in North America. We are pleased to reach this milestone on the path to building this truly North American railroad," he said.
