Taber Alberta - Eleven cars went off the rails in a train derailment near Taber on
Wednesday.
No cause for the derailment is available yet, but there were no hazardous materials spilled, and no injuries reported,
according to RCMP and CP.
"Last night, a CP freight train derailed empty rail cars east of Taber. There were no dangerous goods
involved," said an emailed statement from the railway.
"CP dispatched crews and equipment in response to the incident. The incident is under
investigation."
Mounties were called at 00:10 by Canadian Pacific Railway police with reports of the derailment in several locations
along Highway 3, from Highway 36 to Range Road 163 and Range Road 162.
Volker Stevin highway control services also responded to the incident and traffic is down to one lane east and west on
Highway 3.
Drivers were warned to expect delays while cleanup continues.
RCMP recommend drivers should avoid travel if possible, and also slow down and adjust their driving to road conditions
if travel is necessary.
