The Revelstoke Division of the Canadian Pacific Railway had an objective of raising $94,960 (over $1.7 million in 2023) for the Fifth Victory Loan campaign.

CPR employees across British Columbia were hoping to raise $649,400 (over $11.6 million in 2023).

It was purely an employee compaign, conducted by the men themselves with the support of their officers.

The double track project being contructed east of Revelstoke was nearly complete for the 1983 construction season.

The 7.4 miles of double track, which cost an estimated $13.5 million (over $37.7 million in 2023), was laid at various points beginning three miles east of Revelstoke.

The project aimed to improve rail service on the mountain subdivision between Revelstoke and Field.
