After what seemed like an extremely long wait farther up the line at Gold Hill the train finally appeared. On this particular trip an air line in the cab broke during the climb forcing the train to wait at Scales Siding near American Flats until a new part and tools could be delivered. There is an engine tender of water stored on the siding there, so the locomotive can take water before continuing. The train was only about a half hour late upon arrival at Virginia City.
