The railway carriage restored by Aargauern was transported up the Schöllenen Gorge. The car with the marking "AB 4462" will be completed this week in Realp and will be carefully checked according to the specifications of the Federal Office of Transport.
You don't have to be a train fan to be fascinated by the sight of a historic Furka steam train.
No wonder a crowd forms whenever it stops in Realp, Gletsch, or Oberwald.
The low-loader also caused a sensation with the coach aboard.
On Saturday it drove the historic Furka railway car from Aarau through the spectacular Schöllenen Gorge to Realp in the Urserental.
The coach, built in 1914, was lovingly renovated in Aarau, where the Aargau section of the Furka Mountain Route Association (VFB) operates a car workshop.
Around 60 volunteers have invested a total of 9,000 working hours, financially supported by sponsors.
Car AB 4462 will be completed this week in Realp and will be carefully checked according to the specifications of the Federal Office of Transport.
Then the car will join a train of red cars which departs from Realp to Oberwald at 10:15, and from there back to Realp at 13:50.
"With its 1st class compartment, it will be a gem of the fleet," said Heinz Unterweger of the Furka Mountain Route Association.
Incidentally, the Aargau section of the association is one of the largest with 1,200 members, the association has over 7,000 members worldwide.
The section was founded in 1987 and has already renovated around a dozen rail cars in Aarau.
