Here's a close-up of one of the narrow gauge construction locomotives. They are equipped with diesel engines that comply with exhaust emission regulations obtained by using a particulate filter and catalytic converter. They employ a hydrostatic transmission (torque converter). Weighing between 35 and 45 tonnes there are over 40 in use building the Gotthard Base Tunnel.
