As a Schynige Platte Bahn train climbs upgrade Lake Thun can be seen in the far distance - Date unknown Anonymous Photographer - SPB. 4 June 2015 Operation of the SPB Remains Discontinued Rotenegg Siding Switzerland - A Schynige Platte Bahn train derailed at the Rotenegg intersection this morning at 10:20. No one was hurt in the derailment this morning. The six people on the train were taken to Wilderswil immediately. Then an attempt was made to get the derailed locomotive back on track to free up the route. This led to a further incident. The train that carried out the manoeuvre to recover the derailed train bumped into the previously derailed train, for as yet unexplained reasons, and got into difficulties itself. Due to the second incident the operation of the Schynige Platte Bahn could no longer be resumed the entire day. The 100 or more passengers, who were still on Schynige Platte, were brought to the valley in the afternoon. The majority went to the Alp Iselten, where passengers were transported by buses to Burglauenen. As compensation, they received a choice of a free ticket for the Harder or Schynige Platte Bahn. People who could not cope with the walk were flown back by helicopter. The cause of the malfunction is presently being looked into. It is likely that the Schynige Platte Bahn will be able resume operation during the course of the day tomorrow. We will promptly inform you when operation resumes. Anonymous Author |
