ÖBB Places Order for 200
Siemens Vectron Locomotives


Vienna Austria - Austrian state railway operator Österreichische Bundesbahnen (ÖBB) has placed an order for up to 200 Vectron locomotives from Siemens.
 
Under the contract, Siemens will supply up to 100 alternating current (AC) locomotives, a further 50 alternating current (AC) locomotives with diesel power modules, in addition to 50 multi-system (MS) locomotives.
 
ÖBB placed a firm order for 30 MS locomotives at the time of contract signing.
 
Set to be built in the Siemens plant in Munich-Allach, Germany, the first locomotive units are expected to be delivered beginning next year.
 
ÖBB's freight division Rail Cargo Group will operate the locomotives, which are planned to be used for cross-border freight transport in Austria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia.
 
All locomotives will have national control systems and equipped with the European Train Control System (ETCS).
 
With a maximum output of 6,400kW, the locomotives have a top speed of 160 km/h.
