Full Steam into the Future

Jenbach - Shareholder Christian Kittl is not satisfied with what is currently going on at the Achenseebahn.

"The schedule of the trains must be different, they should connect with every ship at Seespitz."

He also wants to save money.

"The brakes can be replaced by a braking system," he says, which touches on a taboo.

The ideas are bubbling out, to create a support association for the Achenseebahn, to organize steam courses for railway enthusiasts.

"The fact is that a profit of between €50,000 and €70,000 has to be earned annually," he summarizes.

"I want three board seats for my shareholder group, three for the municipalities, and the seventh seat for Georg Fuchshuber, Managing Director of the Verkehrsverband Tirol (a transport company)," as he lays the groundwork for the Annual General Meeting in June.

Kittl claims to speak for shareholders holding approximately 37 percent of the shares.

He will submit these proposals to the acting Supervisory Board on 25 May 2010.

Georg Fuchshuber, Managing Director of the Verkehrsverband Tirol (VVT), knew nothing about this.

"I can not decide whether I will be on that supervisory board, my employer, the Province of Tirol, has to do that," he clarifies.

Christian Kittl himself emphasized that he would like to do something for the region and the Achenseebahn.

He wants to help eradicate weaknesses so that the train can go full steam into the future.

This debate was launched on the occasion of the appointment of the Jenbach representative to the Supervisory Board.

The municipal council elected Mayor Wolfgang Holub.

The second candidate, Andreas Lackner, was rejected.

Attempts by the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) to call for Hermann Margreiter also failed.

That is why the municipality of Jenbach has only one representative on the Supervisory Board.

In the meantime, politics has also taken care of the railways.

The Achenseebahn, like the Zillertalbahn and Stubaitalbahn (The Stubai Valley Railway is an 18.2 kilometre long narrow gauge streetcar line from Innsbruck to Fulpmes in the Tirol.), will benefit from special promotions.

"In the years 2010 to 2014, €27.6 million will be distributed in favor of the three private lines," announced Austrian Peoples Party (ÖVP) Chairman Josef Geisler in a broadcast.

This is expected to push necessary infrastructure investments.

"The Tirolean private railways should be further modernized for tourism as well as for freight and passenger transport," adds Geisler.
